ACCC warns on Christmas scams
/The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has cautioned the public about holiday season scams that have already troubled consumers this year.
The regulator has outlined three particular scams:
- involving travel, where scammers trick their victims into believing they’ve won a travel prize or scored a really good deal on a travel package;
- online shopping, where scammers will set up believable looking online stores to trick people into goods that don’t really exist; and
- parcel delivery, where scammers will send fake ‘missed delivery’ notices to potential victims.
The commission also reminds consumers about the importance of maintaining security of personal information. For more information see here.
